Responsibilities
Join our team! We are seeking to fill the position of Clinical Veterinarian to provide professional veterinary services in support of animal-based research programs at Western and its affiliates. In this position, you’ll provide enhanced animal health and welfare, advance the strategic objectives of the Animal Care & Veterinary Services unit, and support the mission and values of Western and Western Research. This is a leadership role within our team, responsible for ensuring effective animal care and veterinary services, providing guidance and consultation to principal investigators, directing veterinary care, participating in quality assurance processes and the review of processes, procedures, and training programs. This position is located on site, in London, Ontario.
Qualifications
As the ideal candidate, you possess a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, with an active licence from the College of Veterinarians of Ontario, and postgraduate training in laboratory animal medicine. You have experience in clinical and compliance assurance veterinary services in a research environment, as well as comprehensive application of animal medicine to a variety of common laboratory species. You are proficient in veterinary diagnosis, treatment, surgical and anesthetic procedures (preferably in a multi-species research environment), and you have experience with health monitoring and disease control programs and strategies, complemented by a developed sense of judgment and risk management. You have influential interpersonal skills that enable you to be an effective leader of teams, as well as organizational skills to enhance your project management abilities. Finally, you have the ability to work within a flexible schedule.
